Originally part of the Northwest Territories, Lloydminster and its surrounding area was a British Utopian settlement founded by the Barr Colonists in 1903. Sitting just on the Fourth Meridian, in 1905 it was decided that the region would be divided by two provinces – Alberta and Saskatchewan, and Lloydminster thus became two separate towns, and remained so for 25 years. It was not until 1930 that it became a united town under joint provincial jurisdiction. Since this time, Lloydminster has grown into a city of over 27,000 people.
