Originally settled by Scottish and French families in1891, in the beginning Spruce Grove (named for the beautiful trees surrounding the area), contained only a Roman Catholic Church, stables, a general store, hotel and blacksmith. The establishment of the railroad brought the grain trade in 1908, and in 1955 it had become a village. By 1971 it was considered a town, and over the last quarter century, Spruce Grove has officially been designated a city and boasts a population of over 26,000 people. |
